After a huge loss to the Indian Film Industry in the form of director K Balachander's demise, the Tamil Film Directors' Council decided to organize a meeting to bemoan the death of an important personality of Tamil cinema in recent past.
During the Film Festival, Balachander's films will be screened for a week as a mark of respect. Also, the Directors' Council have decided to request the Tamil Nadu government to originate an award and name it after the illustrious filmmaker.
Will the government agree to erect the statue and name an award after K Balachander? We just need time to carry on its endless job to know the answer. Even with Balachander's soul departed, his followers and admirers continue to keep him alive through various measures.
Recently Kamal Haasan too said a new drama troupe would be started in the name of two legendary theatre personalities, Avvai Shanmugam and K Balachander. We wouldn't be surprised if many such tributes flow in towards the Duet director for his 100 films are like a library for all aspiring filmmakers.
